Yazmine “Yazzie” Graham

Artist Yazmine “Yazzie” Graham was born and raised in Newark, NJ and has been creating art since she could hold a pencil. Yazzie is an Alumni of Arts High School and Michael Graves College School of Public Architecture at Kean University and former Teaching-Artist for GlassRoots Inc. and now works as an Architectural Drafter for Designer’s Edge architecture and design firm. Yazzie's personal work however is peppered with lots of color and takes on many forms of weird, vulnerable, playful and political stands from the point of view of her community. With familiar fashion and music references Yazzie challenges herself to pair daydreams and visuals from some of her own real life experiences, people and visual artist along with materials like marker, watercolor, acrylic paint, or glass. She hopes that by making her subject matter Black culture she can provoke adventure where inspiration has faded, begin journeys by acknowledging existing life and the understanding that every moment should start with a tabula rasa.
