Nail design is a major aspect in the Black community. For many; going to the nail salon to acquire a new color and a hand massage is a weekly self-care ritual. The most enticing and notable part of nail design in Black Culture are the creative and vibrant styles. Often themed; the nail sets can portray anything from paying homage to fashion, dedication to loved ones and even a favorite snack.

The culture is created through innovation and resiliency. This piece is one of many reflections on the people in my community. The refreshing feeling one gets after a new hair cut, retwist or braid up is one that doesn’t even have to be spoken about — you can see the glow and boost of confidence when they walk in the room.

Futuristic Fem is the glass art portrayal of trope of the “Strong Black Woman” — this persona can appear different in form as it goes from one Fem aligning person to the next but at the end of it all the fate of the future is dependent on the Feminine.
